B.S. degree in Physical Education with a Specialization in Exercise Science
Exercise science is the study of how the human body responds to exercise and movement. The field emphasizes concepts of health, wellness and fitness, and the scientific basis of sports performance. Students in the exercise science programs take courses in exercise physiology, kinesiology, exercise testing and prescription, nutrition, anatomy and physiology, and chemistry.
The University of South Florida (USF) Exercise Science program is endorsed by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and prepares students for a variety of entry level positions in the exercise science field as well as qualifying students for national professional certifications such as ACSM’s Certified Health Fitness Specialist (CHFS) and the National Strength and Conditioning Association’s (NSCA’s) Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).
The Exercise Science graduate is qualified to work and train in settings ranging from personal training at private gyms to cardiac rehabilitation in hospitals to strength and conditioning with professional teams. |

NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists are trained
and certified to design and implement safe and effective fitness
(strength gains, flexibility, weight management, etc.) and performance
(balance, coordination, power, etc.) centered training and conditioning
programs while applying the latest scientific and practical knowledge.
This prestigious credential, which can only be earned after having
received a 4 year college degree, also qualifies your trainer to
provide guidance regarding nutrition and injury prevention.
